German Week 2017 a great success in Mekelle and around
Besuch der vom Verein Etiopia-Witten unstertützten Schulen
March 7, 2017 Duramba School
The three students of the Holzkamp school, who had come to Mekelle, as well as their teachers and the members of Etio-Education, went to the Duramba school in the following days. The new construction of this school, co-funded by the association Etiopia-Witten, had been opened to Germanweek last year. Now she is in operation. Thankfully, a fountain has been created by an aid organization dedicated to this area. The children of the Witten children were handed over and some gifts were handed over to the children. A school garden is pre-rented together. Out of gratitude, lunch had been prepared by the parents at the school.
Feierliche Übergabe des Feuerwehrfahrzeugs und Taufe der Witten Street in Mekelle
On 5 March 2017 the solemn handing over of the donated fire-fighting vehicle from Germany took place to the mayor of Mekelle, Daniel Afessa, and unveiling of the sign with the new street name "Witten Street". In addition to the mayor of the city of Mekelle, the German ambassador Joachim Schmidt, Ahmedin Idris, as chairman of the association Etiopia-Witten and Mrs. Sabine Schmelzer as deputy of Witten mayor Mrs. Sonja Leidemann, held their speeches on this occasion. After the unveiling of the road sign and the key handover of the fire truck, Michael Heiland and Wolfgang Kalk from Witten, together with the Mekelle firefighters, who had not yet been fully instructed by the fully deployed rescue ladder of the fire truck, demonstrated how high and wide the water jet can reach.
The German Ambassador then visited the intensive care unit and the heart catheter laboratory set up by Etiopia-Witten at the Ayder Hospital.
