The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Ayder Referral University Hospital in Mekelle is headed by the Ethiopian doctor Dr. Bethlehem. It is one of the few specialist departments in all of Ethiopia. The technical equipment, which mainly consists of donations, is heavily worn out, out dated and incomplete.

Dr. Susan Böhme, specialist in ear-nose and throat clinics in his own practice in Halle-Saale, has been working together with the association Etiopia-Witten since 2016 to develop and equip modern medical diagnostics and treatment facilities in the university hospital Ayder Referral Hospital University of Mekelle in Ethiopia.
